Dry Bright Copper Wire

What is dry bright copper wire?

Dry Bright Copper is usually sourced from electrical cable. There is a shortage of copper wire, though in the construction industry it is being rapidly overtaken in use by aluminium cable.  Also referred to as “bright & shiny copper,” it is the most valuable and high-paying grade around. It refers exclusively to bare, uncoated and unalloyed wire or cable – no thinner than 16 gauge in thickness – which is of #1 copper quality.

What’s the difference between #1 and #2 copper wire?

Difference being one is solid core and the other is stranded wire obviously smaller than 16 guage.

Would that make the stranded #2 as the strands are smaller than 16 gauge?

#1 Copper is stripped wire that is bigger than a #2 pencil lead.
